With Covid 19 hitting the roof in India what should you do?

It’s been more than a month since I last posted my blog on Covid 19.

Of course, there’s nothing much to write now except the increase in cases and deaths in India and now in Tamilnadu.

The big question is what should be done in such a situation?

I’ll share with you what I am doing under the circumstances.

I recommend the advice of those who have come back alive from the Covid 19 experience; “Take every step to prevent contracting the disease. Even the mildest infection is a difficult experience.”

Here’s what I am doing to prevent Covid 19.

I am staying put in my home over 90% of the time. I go out only when my presence is absolutely needed to obtain food, medicines and cash from the ATM. I avoid going into crowded shops or places and try to avoid airconditioned shops except when absolutely necessary.

I try to maintain safe distances and force others to maintain distances by not coming closer to me than needed.

I wear mask always while going out, having increased to double masking recently. I try to force others with whom I have to come in contact to wear masks whenever possible.

I wash my hands with soap and water as often as possible as well as sanitising whenever needed.

I started steam inhalation twice a day- breathing in through nose and breathing out through the mouth and then reversing it by breathing in through the mouth and breathing out through the nose with each done 15 times. (Recommended 10 times). I have not kept up the habit as the first Chinese made inhaler that I bought was so flimsy it conked out within a few weeks. I have not got into the habit again after purchasing a second one.

We try to consume immune boosting foods including mixed vegetable juice as well as juice made of varieties of greens. Whenever possible we add thulsi or royal basil leaves and thuthuvalai leaves.

Most important of all, both my wife and I have taken two shots of the Covishield with six weeks gap.

What more can I do to prevent Covid 19?

It does not mean that what I am doing is 100% risk free.

With the circle of Covid 19 infections and associated deaths getting closer, I am not ashamed to say that I do have fear at times.

On the other hand, I have tremendous faith in my God, that He will not allow this disease to strike me without His divine permission. Even in such a situation, I am at peace with my God as to whatever should be the outcome.

There is so much confused advice coming out on immunisation, the effective ones, the complications of differing vaccines and the intervals being recommended between the first and the second dose. I do not intend to get into that muddled area.

Whenever you get the opportunity to have the vaccine against Covid 19 take it. In spite of apparent failure in some, over all the benefit is worth the vaccine.

Very gradually, I’ll move out of blogging on Covid 19 and move on to my major work on poverty reduction.
